Refrection
1. On a scale from 1 to 5 (1=easy and 5=difficult) how difficult was this assignment? : 4
2. Please explain why you choose this number.
It was difficult for me because I hadn't explained how to make something using tools. I should've started from searching name of tools. Especially, I felt difficulty when I explain direction or parts of the thing.
3. How and why did you pick the furniture manual that you did? Were there other manuals that you considered? Why not them?
We looked other furniture, for example, table, lump and toy, but these looked so complicate and had a lot of steps. Henrikusdal that we choosed looked simple, and it has just 8 steps and 4 tools that we had seen. That's why we choosed that.
4. What was the most challenging step to explain in your directions? Why?
I didn't know how to explain "step5-7". Even if in Japanese, I couldn't explain these steps. I could think up easy way of saying about action like " pull" or "attach", but it made upset me to think about the way that fit in sentence. I think that's because it is the things that I never say in words in daily life.
5. What do you feel was easier to do in text than in the picture when you wrote out the directions?
When I think about "step 2", I felt it is a easy to explain because it sounded like complicated at first look, but I could understand what situation it is. When I explain the thing that I can understand, I felt easy.
6. Do you think directions such as these are best in text (symbolic), picture (iconic)?
I think picture is the best way.
7. If you were to combine both the text (symbolic) and icon (picture) do you think this would help or confuse the communication of directions?
I think it's helpful to understand correctly. If people can't understand when they look one of them, they can try to see another one. The one can help to understand the meaning of another one.
8. Think of something in everyday life that you would like to learn. Do you think you could use icon (picture) based directions like the IKEA manuals to learn this. Why or why not?
Yes, I do. I think people often get information from icon in daily life. I think it's understood us the meaning when people see it in a moment.
9. Final thoughts, what situations do you feel icon directions work better than symbolic? And symbolic better than icon?
When I watch forecast, I feel it is easy to understand that they informe us wether using icon because we can understand in a moment where is how whether. How ever, when they inform about degree, I fell it is better to use symbolic because feeing is difficult to convey with icon.
